June 5, 2020 Update

Here in Nova Scotia the government is taking initial steps towards gradually re-opening the economy of the province, which includes lifting the restrictions currently in place for health professionals.
We at Archway are closely monitoring these developments and are making decisions to open our offices to in-person counselling based on the guidance and recommendations from our provincial government, our professional regulatory bodies (Nova Scotia College of Social Workers and the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists) and our various contract agencies.
Therefore, for the time being, we will continue to provide services by way of telecounselling only (telephone and secure video).
We have remained open throughout the pandemic and continue to serve our clients (both current and new referrals) through telecounselling. We are thankful for this technology, and even though it’s been an adjustment, it’s been very effective in meeting the needs of those we serve.
Our approach to resuming in-person contact will focus on caution. The pandemic is continuing and, as the economy opens up and more interaction takes place, the risks are increasing, not decreasing.
In the coming weeks we will continue to work carefully towards opening our offices to in-person counselling. We are developing new protocols and practices that will address the important safety considerations for our clients and staff. Our “new normal” will need to account for physical distancing, ensuring appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adopting proper cleaning and disinfecting protocols, and other measures to assist in reducing transmission of COVID-19 moving forward.
These are difficult times for us all. Please reach out and contact us with any questions or concerns. 902-893-3991 or Keep going, we will get through this. And don’t forget to stay connected.

March 31, 2020 Update

As we continue to adjust to this “new normal” it’s safe to say that we’re all at different places. Some are tired of it all, some bored, some angry, and some haven’t had time to think. And some thrive on the alone time. One thing is for sure, we are all affected by the current events.

It’s so important to stay connected in this time of spacial distancing. For some you may need a bit of extra support. Archway continues to offer counselling services through phone and secure video. We also offer reduced fees on a sliding scale for those that request it.

Pay attention to how the pandemic is affecting your mental and spiritual health. Reach out to a friend or family member. Stay connected. We will get through this.

March 24, 2020 Update

It seems everything has changed in the past few weeks. We all are scrambling to keep up, anxious about the future and trying to figure out our next step. There is no playbook for this.

While our office is closed to foot traffic and we are not conducting in-person counselling, we have transitioned to providing counselling services through tele/secure video. We are accepting new referrals. We are working diligently to do our part in meeting the mental health needs in our community.

Unfortunately, Slate Youth Centre is temporarily closed while we do our part in adhering to the government recommendations. We will re-open as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

The Board of Directors is meeting regularly to monitor the ever-changing situation and provide guidance.

Mental health issues and the need for support is likely to increase in the coming months. The need for support and connection is vitally important. Let’s all do our part in helping each other through this time.

March 17, 2020 Update

The COVID-19 pandemic is still evolving locally and globally. The safety of our clients and clinicians is our highest priority, and all of our decisions and responses reflect that commitment to client and clinician safety. We have developed the following strategy to take this pandemic very seriously, while continuing to provide counselling services.

Effective immediately we are transitioning to video/telephone delivery of counselling services for the foreseeable future. Additionally, effective immediately our office is closed to the general public.

Counselling sessions will continue to be conducted, but all sessions will be conducted by phone or secure video conferencing. This video platform is very user friendly, and implements security and encryption protocols to assure that privacy is maintained. This video platform complies with HIPAA, GDPR, PHIPA/PIPEDA, & HITECH requirements.

We will be contacting each of our current clients directly to discuss these options and make plans for the future. While this is a change, it also is an opportunity for Archway to continue to do our part in meeting the counselling needs in our community. If you or someone you know is in need of counselling services, please feel free to contact us.

By following the provincial and federal recommendations, we hope to do our part in supporting our clients, and our community, through this difficult time.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at or 902-893-3991.
